The verbal volleys between Congress and BJP following Rahul Gandhi’s corruption allegation against Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a new turn after BJP claimed that Modi was pure like river Ganga.
Congress on Wednesday evening responded to the anomaly saying the holy river was contaminated and purification was in practice.
Addressing a rally in Mehsana, Gujarat earlier today, Rahul said that Modi received kickbacks as chief minister of Gujarat from Sahara.
Referring to documents recovered by the I-T department during raids on Sahara Group and Aditya Birla Group, Rahul said Sahara paid Narendra Modi nine times in a span of six months.
However, the BJP laughed off the corruption charges saying Rahul is the non-serious political leader.
“Rahul Gandhi is levelling baseless charges to divert attention from AgustWestland scam,” said Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad was quoted in media reports as saying.
“PM Narendra Modi is pure like Ganga and levelling such serious charges against Modi isn’t justified,” he added.
Meanwhile, Congress hit back saying the holy river has already been contaminated and it needed purification. The Party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala attacked BJP for its rebuttal of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s allegations about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s corruption.
Surjewala said that Ganga river has already been polluted, so there have been purification programmes in practice.
“Credibility, honesty and integrity of PM Modi at stake; We (Congress) have great respect for PM Modiji. PM Modiji must come forward and say whether or not he took money from Sahara and Birla,” he said while addressing the media.
