Police in Uttar Pradesh was raiding several locations in the state to arrest Dayashankar Singh, the BJP UP vice-president, who was sacked by the party for likening Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati to a prostitute.
In Lucknow, hundreds of BSP workers were out protesting against the remark by Singh. The BSP had filed a case against Singh last evening. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha yesterday, an incensed Mayawati had demanded the BJP sack, Singh, after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley apologized to her on behalf of his party.
She said, “Everyone calls me sister or behenji even in Parliament. What that BJP leader said, he said to his sister and his daughter. The country will not forgive the BJP for this.” The opposition parties came out in support of Mayawati.
BJP UP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya said the issue should end here as Singh had been penalized by the party.
Police said heavy security deployment has been made in Hazratganj which is the epicenter of the BSP workers’ protest.
