The State government has put in place precautionary measures in anticipation of the cyclonic storm Nada, which is likely to cross the north Tamil Nadu coast between Vedaranniyam and Puducherry, near Cuddalore, early on December 2.
The TN Electricity Board has mobilised additional manpower and equipment in Cuddalore and Nagapattinam, and one SDRF and two NDRF teams are being positioned in these districts.
A team headed by a director and chief engineer of the Villupuram region was instructed to camp in Cuddalore and a team headed by a chief engineer from Tiruchy was instructed to camp in Nagappattinam from November 30. The government also announced that schools in five districts expecting heavy rainfall, including Chennai, will remain closed on Thursday and Friday.
Materials, including distribution transformers and conductors, have been made available to carry out restoration work should the need arise
