CHENNAI: Yet another plea has been made in the Madras High Court to stall the release of Kabali on July 22. In its application arising out of a civil suit, Sukra Films, by its partner R Mahaprabu, submitted that Rajnikanth-starter Lingaa, produced by Rockline Venkatesh, was released on December 12, 2014.
Sukra Films had obtained distribution rights for Coimbatore territory by paying an advance of Rs 13.25 crore. But the movie’s performance at the box office was poor.
It resulted in Sukra Films incurring a financial loss of Rs 7.45 crore. Rajnikanth and Rockline Venkatesh collectively accepted to compensate the loss and Rs 89 lakh was to be given to Sukra Films. It was the responsibility of Kalaipuli S Thanu, producer of Kabali and President of TN Film Producers Council, to settle this issue before releasing his own movie.
The judge ordered notice to Rajinikanth and others, returnable by Thursday.
