Super star Rajinikanth and Radhika Apte-starrer Kabali’s box office collections have been destroying records every day. The movie not only got a bumper opening or Friday and completely booked a weekend at BO, it continues with its winning spree on weekdays as well.
According to The Reporter Times, Kabali earned approximately 15 crores on the fourth day of its release, which happens to be a Monday. This brings the first four day collections of the Rajinikanth film to a whopping Rs 115 crore. Despite the working day and mixed reviews, fans of Thalaiva continue to flock to the theatres. Trade tracker Ramesh B wrote that Kabali’s performance is solid overseas as well. According to him, the film has already surpassed Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 record to become the highest weekend earner ever.
Earlier, Kabali had surpassed Salman Khan’s Sultan first-day and first weekend earnings. The only record this movie failed to break was that of Baahubali which earned Rs 50 crore on the first day of release. The total earnings of Rajinikanth’s film are Rs 415 crore. While Rs 215 crore is from ticket sales, the rest is pre-release money from the sale of various rights.
Speaking to the Indian Express, Kabali producer Kalaipuli S Dhanu earlier said that the movie had earned Rs 90 crore abroad in the first weekend, out of which Rs 28 crore came from the US itself where the film is among the top 10 films. The producer put Indian collection for the first weekend at around Rs 100 crore.
“I will never forget these days in my life. This release has given me so much happiness. It has broken the collection records of Indian cinema in the last 100 years,” Dhanu said.
Unlike a Bollywood film where the overheads are high, Kabali has been made on a modest budget. The total budget of Kabali was about Rs 75 crore, out of which Rajinikanth got the lion’s share of Rs 50-60 crore.
