Two days after the murder of Infosys employee S. Swathi at the Nungambakkam railway station, the Government Railway Police (GRP) is yet to identify the killer but has managed to recover more CCTV footage of the suspect escaping after committing the crime.
On Sunday, GRP officials released fresh footage of the suspected killer from a closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) located on Railway Border Road on Sunday and have asked the public to provide any details they had about the suspect.
“We are able to map the route of the murderer from the CCTV footage, but are finding it difficult to sketch the accused because of the poor quality [of the footage],” said a senior GRP officer.
A team is trying to enhance the quality of the footage in which the accused is seen fleeing from the crime spot at the station, scaling a wall and walking on the Railway Border Road.
Meanwhile, the Chennai City Police are assisting the GRP in the murder investigation.
A senior officer of the City Police said the local police have been providing all assistance in the investigation process based on the requests from the GRP.
“The local police are already on the job of assisting the investigation. Teams have been talking to various commercial establishments and local people to find the identity of the killer,” a senior police officer in the city said.
Meanwhile, Swathi’s family members also requested the public to help find the killer. At the same time, the family requested the media to avoid speculating about the character of the victim.
