The government will incur an additional expenditure of Rs 39.68 crore a year because of the new vacancies, it said.
Ms. Jayalalithaa also ordered to create 161 new vacancies for the Government Medical College to be started in Pudukkottai in the first phase.
These vacancies too included professors, associate professors, assistant professors, nurses, paramedical staff and non-medical staff.
The government would incur an additional expenditure of Rs 8.87 crore.
In all, Ms. Jayalalithaa ordered the creation of 969 vacancies in both the institutions, the statement said, putting the total annual expenses to be incurred by the government at Rs 48.55 crore.
It also listed out various measures taken by the government led by Ms. Jayalalithaa on the medical education and healthcare fronts.
