New Delhi: Joining the chorus in condemning the Bhartiya Janata Party for the derogatory comments made by Dayashankar Singh on Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa demanded the removal of Singh from the party and not just his post. Singh, in his comments, likened the BSP chief to a prostitute.
“It is not enough for BJP to remove Dayashankar Singh from his post, he should be sacked from the party,” AIADMK chief said in a statement. “Everyone should stand united to bring an end to incidents like these,” she added.
Singh’s comments caused an uproar in the parliament on Wednesday. The opposition parties stormed the well in Rajya Sabha raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP government. Due to the uproar, the session was prematurely adjourned for the day. If stringent action is not taken against Dayashankar Singh, Mayawati warned, there will protest everywhere.
These comments come at a time when the government is already facing a lot of heat from the opposition parties, mainly Congress for the Una incident where Dalit men were publicly flogged by self-styled Gau-rakshas for transporting cow carcass. “The nation will not forgive BJP for this, especially with what is going in Gujarat,” Mayawati said in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury joined the BSP chief in her call for Singh’s arrest. Speaking in Rajya Sabha, she said, ”A man speaks with such language on the day both houses are discussing issues on violence on Dalits.”
“This man has to be arrested before sun down. This has to be made an example of,” she added.
