DMK Ready For Debate On Sri Lankan Tamils Issue says Duraimurugan

The Opposition DMK today said it was prepared for a separate debate on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.

Intervening during the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address to the Tamil Nadu Assembly, DMK Deputy Leader and former Minister Duraimurugan said the DMK was ready for a debate on the issue.

Earlier, the House witnessed uproarious scenes for some time when ruling AIADMK member P Vetrivel said when the genocide of Tamils took place during the final phase of the war, everyone knew which party was in power in the state at that time.

As it triggered protests from the DMK benches, who reacted angrily and gesticulated at Vetrivel, DMK WhipR Chakrapani sought to make a remark about the demand for the arrest of LTTE Prabhakaran, Leader of the House and Finance Minister O Pannerselvam said the AIADMK members had shifted to another subject.

To this, the DMK again raised objections, resulting in noisy scenes.

When Speaker P Dhanapal asked Vetrivel to continue his speech, he said since some doubts persisted during the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, there were views that LTTE leader V Prabhakaran should be arrested.

Intervening, Duraimurugan said the DMK was prepared for a separate debate on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.
