Kerala: In a shocking incident, Gold worth Rs 186 crores has mysteriously gone missing from Kerala’s Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple.
A special audit report by the Vinod Rai committee on temple management stated that there was a loss of 263 kg gold in the name of purification and gold worth 186 crores in the form of 769 gold pots were not traceable.
The report said 30 percent of the gold sent for melting and purification was lost.
Rai in his report has recommended constituting a committee to oversee irregularities in the temple.
In 2015, the Supreme Court had asked Rai to do an audit of the temple and submit its report.
According to sources, the report by former Comptroller and Auditor general Vinod Rai are in two volumes and five parts running into 1,000 pages.
This directive came on the recommendations of amicus curiae and senior advocate Gopal Subramaniam, who had sought to overhaul of the functioning of the temple.
