Chennai: Ramkumar, the accused in Swathi murder case was sent to Puzhal prison yesterday evening after three days of police custody. According to reports, Ramkumar was grilled with questions for three days. Swathi’s friend Mohammed Bilal Siddique was also present during the last day of the inquiry to decode the messages the friends exchanged.
The final day of Ramkumar’s custodial interrogation was held at the heavily guarded Nungambakkam Police station. Police sources said that he confessed to the crime “I’ve made a huge mistake. I shouldn’t have killed her. I loved her so much . . .” says Ramkumar.
After celebrating his birthday in his hometown on June 20, Ramkumar stole the billhook ( arrival ) from his uncle and came to Chennai. He was embroiled in a dilemma whether or not to attack Swathi before he resolved to go after her. He threw the weapon with his fingerprints on it and went to his room where he had a sound sleep until late afternoon before he left for his native place.
Putting all speculations to rest, the City Police claimed that they have gathered all the necessary evidence required to prove Ramkumar’s guilt. Swathi’s phone and a shirt with bloodstains were the important evidence in this case.
Meanwhile, P. Ramaraj, Ramkumar’s lawyer, filed a memo alleging he was not allowed to meet him at the station. He claimed the police had forced Ramkumar to confess.
