“Airtel Happy Hours allows prepaid users to schedule in-app content downloads between 3 am and 5 AM”
In an effort to lure more customers to make use of its mobile data plans, Airtel has launched ‘Happy Hours’ for its prepaid users. The service allows users to schedule in-app content to be downloaded during the night.
The content would then be downloaded between 3 am to 5 am, making customers eligible to get 50 percent data back. For instance, if the customer schedules a 100MB download at night, then 50MB data would be credited back to their account. App developers need to integrate their apps with Airtel Happy Hours in order to make use of the feature. The company is making the full API integration kit available to developers at www.airtel.in/happyhours.
The service was first showcased to developers at the Great Indian Developers Summit (GIDS) earlier this year, and apps such as YouTube and FastFilmz have integrated the same, with more apps to follow in the future.
The feature can be used in a few simple steps. For example, in YouTube, the user needs to select the ‘Smart Offline’ option, followed by ‘Save overnight with Airtel Happy Hours’ to schedule the download for later.
The fact that users don’t need to download content on-the-go, and developers get more in-app content uptake makes it a win-win situation for both. On top of this, users get 50 percent of the data back, credited to their account at 6 am every day.
The Happy Hours service is available to all Airtel prepaid customers by default. Data consumed on all regular data packs, except special night packs would be eligible for the offer. In case the customer does not have a data pack, a discounted volume-based charge of 0.4paisa/10KB will be applicable during Happy Hours.
