The suicide bomber killed at least 50 people who had gathered for morning prayers at a mosque in northeastern Nigeria in one of the deadliest attacks in the region for years.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, which occurred in the town of Mubi in Adamawa state. The news agency reported that it was blamed on extremists from the militant group Boko Haram, who are based in neighboring Borno state and have carried out numerous similar assaults.
Police spokesman Othman Abubakar told The Associated Press that the young man detonated his explosives while mingling with the crowd.
He said authorities were “still trying to ascertain the number of injured because they are in various hospitals.”
