The UAE has revealed public holidays for the year 2018, as well as Islamic occasions such as the beginning of Ramadan or Haj, using the Hijri Calendar.

While exact dates of Islamic events vary each year, they depend on local sightings of the moon.

Federal ministries, public departments and institutions are closed during public holidays.

Some of the occasions announced include the Israa and Miaraj night, taking place on April 13, and the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan, expected on May 16. Office hours during Ramadan are reduced by two hours daily.

The end of the month is marked by the three-day Eid Al Fitr, expected to take place on June 14.

Hajj season starts on August 12, while Arafat day will likely occur on August 20, followed by Eid Al Adha on August 21, depending on moon sightings. The Hijri New Year’s Day is predicted to be September 11, while Prophet Mohammed’s birthday is November 19.

UAE National Day

As for December 2 of each year, the country celebrates the UAE National Day, when the seven emirates united as one.

The below dates are not confirmed and are only set by official authorities closer to date, once definite.
