The broad daylight murder at a crowded place like a railway station shattered the conscience of the people, more particularly, the judges, they said.Is there any ego clash or difference of opinion between the Railway Police and the State police, the bench of Justices S Nagamuthu and V Bharathidasan, so most asked immediately after opening their business in their open court hall, today.

Taking a serious view of a news reports the judges wondered as to whether there is any coordination between the Railway Police and the local police and summoned the State Public Prosecutor (PP) to the court. Making a dig at the alleged statement of the City Police Commissioner that the city police has no jurisdiction over the issue, the bench directed the PP to find out the correctness of the submission. It is not that the court will confine to the cases listed before it. It has a social responsibility to track such cases, it added.

Referring to another incident of the acid attack in Puducherry, the judges said that the High Court and the Supreme Court had already issued several guidelines with regard to the sale and purchase of acid, which was largely used against estranged women.

“Are these guidelines are scrupulously followed?”, the judges asked and directed the PP to verify and tell the court whether there is non-coordination between the railway and State police. If it is so, the court will take suo motu action to monitor the case and asked the PP to get instructions by 3 p.m.
